The Unhack Democracy Europe team conducted its first investigation into the April 2018 Hungarian parliamentary elections .
Over the course of a year we uncovered new evidence of widespread vote-rigging.
Reported by the BBC and AFP, our report concludes that Viktor Orbán secured his narrow supermajority thanks to a combination of polling station irregularities, large-scale and direct vote buying in rural areas, the unlawful transportation of voters from Ukraine, and gerrymandering the electoral system.
Testimonies from more than a hundred sixty polling station officials have revealed the illegal bussing of voters, outright vote buying, voter intimidation, interference in the country process, and post vote tampering.
At Unhack we've put together a team of activists, data scientists, programmers and political experts inside and outside Hungary to find out how widespread the fraud was, and take our results to the European Parliament.
We are continuing our work to safeguard the democratic process in Europe.
Here are our goals:
Educate voters, ballot counters and candidates to make electioneering easier.
Build an election monitoring tool-kit that can function across different countries.
Provide assistance and share best-practice models with other civil society groups investigating election fraud.
