Help the Brummel Family

Donation protected
Doug Brummel is an entertaining, energetic, creative force.  He is original and authentic.  Doug and his wife, Jennifer, have spent many years making the world a better place through story, laughter, and love.  For over twenty-three years, Doug has travelled throughout the United States sharing his “Lighten Up!” Ministry with Catholic Churches and organizations nationwide, as well as engaging in local ministry work in the Colorado Springs area.  Doug and Jennifer spread their love of God through involvement in their community, parenting 7 fantastic children, and dedicating their lives to their local and national ministry.  However, for the past 8 months they have had to turn their attention away from their passion for others and focus their energies on a fight that is not of their choosing.  That's why they need our help.

In August 2016, Doug noticed an unusual red bite mark on his neck.  A few days later he got sick.  He suffered from intense headache pressure and lethargy.  He had trouble remembering things and couldn't focus on a conversation if there was any background noise in the room.  In fact, loud noises often caused excruciating head pain.  When the symptoms did not improve, he was eventually diagnosed with West Nile Virus and Encephalopathy.

That diagnosis began a journey that continues today.  This odyssey has included numerous visits to many doctors and extensive (as well as expensive) testing to identify how to help relieve the effects of the symptoms which simply have not disappeared.  As if all that weren't enough, in February Doug had to have an emergency appendectomy.  That surgery turned up additional concerns, which his team of physicians is working to alleviate now.  While Doug has improved in many ways, he still struggles with severe pressure in his skull.  He is currently under the care of a neurologist at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ, over 800 miles from the family's home in Colorado Springs.

As Doug fights to regain his full health, he has had to postpone his national "Lighten Up" Ministry work, a significant source of income for the family.  Doug's creative energies continue to flow through his work at St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Colorado Springs, but his energy and ability to implement his ideas and practice his craft with his usual high standard of quality is severely impacted.  He works continually to contribute, but often pays dearly for his efforts with terrible head pressure and pain from over-exertion.  The family struggles to maintain a sense of normalcy, and in addition to the loss of income, the medical bills are piling up.

Our God is a God of miracles.  Sometimes he accomplishes those miracles with his direct hand, and sometimes he calls us to be his hands and feet.  While we cannot heal Doug ourselves, there are two things we can do to help:  first, we can pray--A LOT!  Then we can use our financial resources to help the Brummel family get back on their feet.  Money doesn't fix everything, but in this case it's a great place to start.  In addition to the stress of navigating an unknown landscape with Doug's health, there is tremendous financial stress.  Let's relieve that pressure and give generously to help Doug and Jennifer replace nearly a year's worth of lost income from their national ministry, pay these extraordinary medical bills, cover the travel costs for Doug's continued medical treatment, and prepare for the expenses that lie ahead.

Thank you for your prayers and for any contribution you are able to make and may God bless you abundantly!
