Kiley's Road To Recovery

Donation protected
Kiley Dauel is a 13 year old straight "A" student who attended Central School District 301, in Burlington, IL. Her world was turned upside down on September 17, 2014. One minute she's hanging out with her family and the next minute she's unconscious and unresponsive. Her family is in complete shock as they call 911. Kiley was transported to St. Joe's hospital in Elgin and then transferred to Lurie's Children's Hospital in Chicago where she's still a patient.

Rob and Jill, Kiley's parents, arrived in Chicago to learn that their daughter had suffered a stroke caused by a blood clot in the Carotid artery. Kiley and her family would soon learn that the left side of her body is paralyzed. During the first week, Kiley experienced horrible headaches, blurred vision, nausea and vomiting. She had to lay flat until they doctors felt confident enough to let her sit up. They were worried about the possibility of additional strokes.

Intensive Care Day 2

As they started to raise Kiley’s head the first 15 degrees she had excruciating pain, dizziness and vomiting. She is now up to 45 degrees and can eat and drink a little bit. Kiley often has driving pain on the side of the head and forehead and blurred vision from pressure/swelling on her brain.

Rob and Jill, have two other children at home (Jayla, 15, and Addie,9) who also need them. They take turns making the trip from Chicago to their home near Burlington, IL to visit with the girls as much as possible. Jill's parents have moved into the family home to help care for the Jayla and Addie so that Rob and Jill can be with Kiley as much as possible.

According to Jill, "Speech will improve and Kiley is still smart as a whip! But she is very frustrated."

The past year for the Dauel family has been one full of faith and trials. About one year ago, they lost their home and all their belongings in a flood. They lived in temporary housing until their home was rebuilt. And a few months ago, Rob's 44 year old brother was killed in a horrific motorcycle accident in Virginia. Now, they are once again pulling together to support Kiley and her road to recovery.

Once Kiley is released from Lurie's Children's Hospital in Chicago they won't be leaving Chicago. We've been told Kiley will move across the street for rehabilitation. This means that Rob and Jill will continue to travel 60+ miles each way to split their time between their daughters.

This family has a long recovery road ahead of them. The Kare for Kiley committee is seeking to raise funds to help Rob and Jill cover medical expenses, travel expenses, household expenses, medical equipment that Kiley may need and most of all improvements to their home to prepare for Kiley’s homecoming.

"Tomorrow will bring more trials. Bring it on. We are staying strong and focused because we literally feel the support and prayers of all of you. We have an idea of what's coming and my prayer is such that we can handle it." ~ Jill Dauel (Kiley's mom)

This fund is set up to go directly to Rob & Jill Dauel. You also have the option to donate anonymously.

Thank you very much for your support.
