MicroGreens Project Indianapolis

Donation protected
The MicroGreens Project is an educational cooking program that arms children and their families with the skills they need to shop for, prepare, and enjoy healthy foods within the confines of a government supplemented budget. Through partnerships with schools and like-minded non-profits, MicroGreens empowers children to feel comfortable making healthy choices in the kitchen, at home, and at the grocery store.

Through one class a week over an eight week period, MicroGreens fellows showcase how anyone can shop for, prepare, and enjoy a healthy meal based on a total budget of $3.50 per meal per family of four.

Each lesson enhances students' culinary expertise and gives them the confidence to use those skills at home, from food preparation like roasting and braising to kitchen safety and team work.

MicroGreens is the project of D.C.-based “chef-preneur” Alli Sosna. With experience cooking in some of the most reputable restaurants in Washington, D.C. as well as cooking on Food Network’s CHOPPED, and feeding over 1 million healthy meals to kids in D.C.’s school children, Chef Alli now partners with a number of national groups to promote healthy food in schools – including the Partnership for a Healthier America – and has participated in conversations around food access and health at the White House on multiple occasions.

MicroGreens Indianapolis is lead by Colleen (Rocap) Kincius. She began her journey cultivating a healthier Indianapolis when she started a health coaching business intent on donating a portion of the profits to fighting food insecurity. She quickly realized that wasn't enough, put the business on hold, and fully immersed herself in volunteering for The Patachou Foundation. A few months later, she started teaching weekly nutrition classes for low-income/food-insecure elementary students in TPF's program taking place in near-eastside neighborhood schools. Inspired by the students' transformations throughout the program, she wanted to do more. Colleen heard about MicroGreens via an article tweeted by Michael Pollan and immediately reached out to Alli to see how she could get involved. Next thing you know, MicroGreens Indy was underway!

With your help, we'll be set to launch the program in the Fall of 2016 at KIPP!

We are currently in need of:
- Donations/Sponsors:
If you know of a local business that would love to support this cause, please have them contact Colleen via the contact link on this page
- Schools
with high rates of free and reduced school lunch participation, preferably with a kitchen
- Dedicated volunteers
who can commit to shadowing Colleen and are willing to teach their own class in other schools as the program grows

Every dollar and every share counts and is appreciated!
$100 puts two kids through the program
$50 covers the cost of equipment for one graduate
$20 buys all of the onions the kids will chop during the program
$3.50 provides a meal for family of four

If you're unable to donate, but would still like to help, please share this campaign.

We promise to keep you updated as we go forth. Please sign up for the newsletter and follow MicroGreens on Facebook and Twitter !
