AJ’s Journey

Donation protected
It has been a long two-and-a-half years, but the time has finally come! AJ has been cleared for a kidney transplant, and we in need of financial donations to help with non-medical bills, transportation, and a new family vehicle.

At 6 months old Adrian Juan Lopez, better known as “AJ,” was diagnosed with stage 5 kidney failure. His kidney function was around 11%. Since then he has been on dialysis every night to do what his kidneys can’t, but now we’re told it is time for a transplant. When the doctors told us how to get ready for the transplant we worked our hardest to get AJ to the appropriate weight and height, but something stopped the process. Along the way AJ developed an issue where he would vomit blood and his stomach lining was bleeding. We have spent over a year-and-a-half going to three different hospitals trying to fix the issue, going to university doctors and even adult doctors, but the treatment wasn’t really helping. Doctors can’t figure out why he is bleeding. His medical team at Motts Children's Hospital came to the conclusion that we have to fix the kidney to fix the stomach.

As if matters couldn't get any worse,  in the middle of the night, our family vehicle was totaled by a drunk driver. We loved that vehicle and definitely needed it. So that is where we are now. We are medically ready for transplant but we need help to buy a new vehicle and stay financially stable during this tough time.

Once the transplant is done he will spend some time in the hospital. After that he will have intensive doctors appointments for the next six months. While all this is happening we will be welcoming our new bundle of joy in February. We’re going to be spread pretty thin, but we are confident we can handle the pressure. If we could get just a little help during this time it would make it easier. Our biggest quote when it comes to AJ is: “It takes a village,” and we truly believe that. We could not have done as well as we have without the love and support of our family and friends, but we need to reach out to the community now for this final push to AJ’s kidney transplant and the recovery afterwards.

If you can help in any way it is be greatly appreciated.
