A benefit for Melissa Freiberg will be held Saturday, March 28, from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Spicer legion. There will be a silent auction & bake sale (bake sale will start at noon). Food will available for free will donation.
Melissa, is originally from Spicer and attended NLS and was a previous employee of Vegdahls/Bonnema Hardware. She suffering from end-stage renal failure. Melissa had her first kidney transplant in 1997. Ten years later she had to start dialysis again & has been doing so daily at her home for 13 years. She has had many infections & hospitalizations over the years due to her condition.
Due to medical issues(low blood pressure & high antibodies) there is no local medical facility willing to perform the transplant. After much searching, Melissa located Dr. William Montgomery in New York City this past summer. She will be having the transplant at New York Langone Medical Facility in the up coming months. Melissa's boyfriend, Darin Anfinson is hoping to able to donate a kidney, but they have not yet completed testing. If Darin is not able to donate, Melissa will be provided a kidney from another donor.
Once the transplant is completed Melissa will be required to stay in New York for 60 days minimum in case of complications. This will be at her own expense.
All proceeds will be used for Melissa's travel & housing expenses as well as other miscellaneous expenses that are inevitable.
