Upcountry Kid's Club

My name is Jennifer Lynn.  At the tender age of 28 I was diagnosed with level 4 malignant melanoma.  Yikes!  My young brain could not compute the prognosis that said I had only a 30 % chance of living cancer-free.  But through countless miracles, I did survive.  That early wake up call got me rethinking my priorities and questioning the systems we are raised to take as normal, functional and good.  The endless push towards more expansion, more profits, more money... where was it going?  Our intellects were being honed, but our connection to nature, to different cultures, and our own inner guidance was being ignored.  More of us were over working to the point of sickness then using our hard earned money to try and heal.  I wanted to change this madness for myself and for others.  I wanted to leave a legacy of betterment.

So I quit the corporate world and started farming and doing yoga.  I've been teaching yoga for 20 years.  In that time, countless people have come to class and often cried tears of joy for the opprotunity to take time for self-care and rediscover their bodies and ressurect their dreams.  I recenlty expanded my studio on Maui to include a second room so we can include kid's classes and eventually offer daycare at the studio so parents can come to class more often.   The resources for this expansion are coming from you, the community of people wanting to rebalance our lives and include greater self-care, community healing, and empowerment to change our lives for the better. 

So far we've raised close to $10,000.  Amazing.  This has paid for the deposit and first two months rent for the new space.  I've used credit cards and a small business loan to cover the rennovations.  So far they have totalled $15,000.  The studio is up and running and parents and kids are enjoying the new classes.  However, I am struggling to make ends meet because of the debt for the renovations.  I am hoping, we are all hoping that another call out for support will put us in the black so the studio can run sustainably.  We have a 5 year lease and we ant those 5 years to offer healing joyful movement and community connection in a sacred space. 

Many hands make light work.  Just a small donation from each of you, followed by a shout out to a few friends will get the moemntum going and with the smallest effort, a wave of goodness will wash over our small island.  Yoga is not about jumping around on a mat, it is about developing an inclusive consciousness where it is natural to care for each other and the earth in the way we live our day to day lives.  This is good for our community and good for a world moving away from diconnected destructive growth into sustain joyful living.
