Brief Introduction:
Hello everyone! My name is Candice and I am a female to male transgender. I was born and raised in Yonkers, New York by two very supportive parents. I am now twenty-one years old and a full-time student majoring in Music at City College. I prefer female pronouns most days, but I am not comfortable with my physical female appearance. I worked through the summer of 2014 to earn the money to start my transition. I started testosterone on August 14, 2014 and have been working a minimum wage job since then to save up for my top surgery.
Growing Up and Family Life:
I grew up with both my parents, an older brother, and an identical twin sister. I currently live with my twin sister and my father.
As a child, I never quite realized that something was different about me. I always wore boy clothes if I had the choice and I loved playing sports and things of that nature. My parents were always very supportive of my interests and fortunately for me, I grew up in an environment where I was not ever singled out for being different. I believe this is why I never noticed that I was transgender until my teenage years. Around the age of 13-14 I became more aware of the trans community and started to realize that I related very much to other transgendered men. I started to research and read up on men who were transitioning. The more and more that I learned, the more I began to realize that it was something I really wanted for myself. I started to realize that all the feelings I had were an actual thing and that changing my body to feel comfortable in my own skin was something TANGIBLE.
In 2014, I felt I was old enough and mature enough to start taking the steps I needed in order to start transitioning. I came out to my twin sister, my father, as well as all of my friends. They have all been extremely supportive and happy for me. I am forever grateful for the support system I have in my life.
Top Surgery:
Now that I have started my transition, I have my heart set on the goal of undergoing top surgery to further change my body. I currently have around $1500 saved up from my own pocket. Being a full-time student does not allow me to make very much money during the week without jeopardizing my studies. Some weeks I will only work around 8 hours, which is why I have created this GoFundMe to aid me in my saving.
The procedure I am looking to get done is between $5500-6500 with Dr. Medalie in Cleveland, Ohio. I plan on staying at a hotel for my procedure and will need to account for that as well as travel costs. Every penny donated is greatly appreciated and leaves me one step closer to undergoing this life-changing procedure.
