I had been saving to buy the camera of my dreams for months and was halfway to reaching my goal when last week, my best friend, Kittles, who I got as a kitten from the Oregon Humane Society and have had my entire adult life, was diagnosed with a rare tissue cancer in her ankle, which the vet said is due to spread to her resperatory system. Her chance of survival is very slim.
Best case scenario, I'm facing the cost of chemotherapy and the amputation of her hind leg, but more likely the cost and grief of her hospice and inevitable euthanasia, all of which will total more than what I saved for the camera I need for work. My baby girl's comfort and care comes first, and so I'm tending to her now with the money I saved.
The camera of my dreams is the Contax G2 35mm rangefinder because I believe it's the artist and not the tool that tells the story, but for all the camera's modesty, I don't earn enough to easily replace nor repair my well-loved cameras.
It took me about five months to save half of what I needed for the Contax G2, but the vet bills have and will continue to exceed my savings.
