1000km Bicycle Ride for Cancer Care

The South West Australian Big Bike Trek
Raising funds for Solaris Cancer Care and Lift the Lid on Mental Health.

Most of us know of someone who has suffered or died from cancer, and many of us understand that mental health and associated diseases are a challenge in today’s society.

Please support Dave Castro and Tony Critchley who have pledged to cycle 1000km around South West Australia in a South Bunbury Rotary initiative to raise $20,000 for Solaris Cancer Care &  Lift the Lid on Mental Illness. 

Sonya, Tony's daughter, in the photo above, was diagnosed with aggressive  breast cancer and had two operations within three weeks. Her first was a breast mastectomy followed by a further operation to remove cancerous nodes.

Sonya has just completed twelve weeks of chemotherapy and now begins five weeks of radiation. After radiation she will undergo hormone treatment for 10 years, and possibly more.

Solaris Cancer Care support all cancer sufferers during and post treatment caring for their emotional and physical  needs. 

"Visiting Solaris I realised the importance of ensuring this care continues. Solaris is a not for profit organisation which needs funds to continue their important work. Professional and office workers give their time for free," explained Tony.

Lift the Lid on Mental Illness is an Australian Rotary Health’s initiative to raise funds for mental health research.

Dave and Tony set off on 7th June, 2018. 

The route will take them from Bunbury to Busselton, Margaret River, Nannup, Bridgetown, Manjimup, Mt Barker, Albany, Gnowangerup, Broomhill, Katanning, Kojonup, Wagin, Darkin, Collie and back to Bunbury. In total, 1000km.

Along the way they hope to visit 12 South West Rotary Clubs.

Jo will be providing back up support for the duration of the ride.
