Hello! My name is Rachel Miller and I'm currently a senior studying International Politics and Human Development at Penn State University.
I have recently accepted a position on administrative assignment at the Love Kids Orphanage in Ghana. I am very excited about my three-month position because it will allow me the opportunity to fund raise for the orphanage and beautiful children living there. Additionally, I will spend my time focusing on outreach programs to help the children have a beneficial living in the orphanage. Specifically, I will work to bridge resources between the community in order to begin trade apprenticeship programs for the children to learn usable skills to create sustainable income in their post-orphanage lives. Furthermore, my time at the Love Kids Orphanage will consist of developing a strategic plan to ensure financial stability of the foundation over an extended time.
Every dollar donated after covering the costs of travel to and from Ghana will go directly toward food and clothes for the children as well as utility bills and building costs at the orphanage. You can also visit the Walmart Wish List page here:
http://www.walmart.com/giftregistry/gr_load_edit.do?registryId=86203252099 in order to purchase items that will go with me to the orphanage.
My heart broke when I was told that four of the original eleven children were placed in the Ghanaian social welfare system, due to lack of funding to keep all eleven children in the orphanage. My vision over the next thirteen months (including the total of ten additional months before and after my time there during which I have volunteered to help from the US) is to create a sustainable structure for these beautiful children to reliably call home.
Each donor will receive a personalized thank-you direct from Ghana including letters and postcards from the children, as well as a video from the children thanking YOU!
Thank you very much for your time and care!
