Take Radio Play to Kinshasa

Donation protected

Hi. This is the Amizero Kompagnie team for Radio Play. Well more specifically, it's the author of Radio Play Elizabeth Spackman, whom you see in the video. Radio Play is a dark comedy about the news that we developed in Rwanda. So far we've performed in Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia. And we're trying to bring the play to Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, where we have an invitation to perform at a festival hosted by Theatre du Tarmac.
We really want to go- for many reasons, but primarily because their needs to be more artistic collaboration between Rwanda and DRC. And the issues the play addressses- not just of freedom of the press but issues of freedom of expression and self-censorship are pertinent today in both countries, and well beyond.
We've been waiting to hear back from some potential funders, and we've gotten radio silence. The festival is really soon- June 6-12, so we're trying to confirm our tickets. Intra-africa travel is ridiculously expensive- though Kigali and Kinshasa aren't that far apart there aren't any cheap or direct flights, so we are looking at $4000 to cover our transportation costs. And we have to raise it fast.
We are doing this campaign in hope of that we might be able to go; we're not yet launching a full fledged fundraising, because we a) don't have time and b) want to have a fuller campaign with a relaunched website later in the year to support Radio Play's journey to even more destinations. But if you can help us in the immediate, we would be incredibly grateful. This is a unique opportunity to bring the play to a venue that would have real resonance, both artisitically and socially, and we aren't sure that will happen again.
Thank you again for your support. You can follow our progress on our new blog
The Kampala International Theatre festival archives  also have more information on the performers and a clip in English. And Francophones among you, feel free to email me for a link to the Burundian performance.

Love and peace to all of you,
and see you in Kin!
