Sickle Cell Health Outreach

Donation protected

My passion for sickle cell disease runs deeper than my own genetic makeup, which is why I started my journey in public awareness a little over a year ago. I started the awareness because I realized in order to spread awareness, you’d have to educate the public as well as be the advocate for those who can’t do it for themselves due to reasons such as social oppression/stigma, inaccessibility to proper healthcare and also a basic lack of understanding. It would amaze you at the amount of ignorance t is when it comes to sickle cell disease.

As a person living with sickle cell disease (SCD) myself, I am most passionate about empowering and encouraging persons living with sickle cell disease, and their caretakers. I have continued to do so by mentoring and educating many through my personal experience and knowledge. Part of this includes providing the basic needs such as medication/treatment based on each person’s immediate need.

I’ve also had the opportunity to work with  SAMI NG ‌and  Genotype Foundation ‌,both based in Lagos, Nigeria; and I’ve been a part of their monthly clinic where I got the opportunity to meet and talk to fellow warriors. Working with these organisations exposed me to some of the challenges these safe havens encounter on a regular basis.

This year, a few sickle cell NGOs have organized a  walk for World Sickle Cell Day ‌, June 11th, 2016, and all have awareness programs throughout the week leading to World Sickle Cell day which is the 19th of June. I would love to help some of the sickle cell Nonprofit organisations based in Lagos, Nigeria; that I am working with or have worked with in the past to meet their various needs especially in providing medication and treatment supplies.

Some of their needs include

· Basic wound dressing supplies
· Medication such as antibiotics, pain-relieving drugs, prophylactic malaria drugs and vitamins to name a few
· Vaccinations to prevent infections
· Genotype Testings

It is my dream to help these organisations continue to provide these basic needs to their members at no extra cost, but I cannot do all of this on my own because the demand is endless and my capability is limited.

If you would like to be a part of this dream, please donate below (if you'll like to donate in Naira, pls send me a note and I'll arrange that for you). If you’d also like to be a part of the walk or volunteer in anyway, please feel  register  here ‌. You can contact me on my blog www.iamnotmyscd.com or via IG @ibbzblogs

Thank you for supporting warriors around the world.
