My name is Mike Brennan, I've been an English teacher for 12 years before I got into business and politics. My passion is education and books.Selling books allows me the opportunity to host nontraditional classes, Bible studies and religious gatherings, poetry reading, introducing new authors, and create a relaxed atmosphere where people can gather and talk about anything or read anything in a quiet, safe atmosphere.As a missionary to Howell, the bookstore allows me to meet people in the community and develop relationships, especially with like-minded bibliophiles. This bookstore has an established positive name.As a former local teacher and politician, I have my ear to the heartbeat of the community. I'll be able to fill in the gap's the way the bookstore has not been able to do so yet, I would have a larger section for comics, magazines, religious studies, and core values such as homeschooling, politics, business. While Howell is generally a conservative community, the bookstore itself would not necessarily be labeled as solely conservative, but would allow people to read and appreciate other cultures and explore various perspectives related to current events. My goal is to make every client feel valued and appreciated, welcome and safe.I do not believe the brick-and-mortar bookstores are, or ever will become, extinct.Within the next six months I plan to move the bookstore to a larger space that would allow for a community conference room, a coffeehouse, and a pleasant reading area furnished with couches, chairs, and tables.I would immediately begin hosting a summer reading program where clients could run free books. Writing clubs for local authors to meet, poetry reading nights, wine and reading nights, children's reading nights, and Bible studies.The initial investment is to reach a goal of $30,000. The final goal would be to raise $35,000 more to furnish a larger storefront equipped to serve coffee and host classes.Selling used books will provide an opportunity for a buyback program which will keep customers loyal.

As a novelist, filmmaker, and educator, I have plans to help local artists, writers, and filmmakers market their projects.
