Help us help high school seniors heading for higher education.
Integral to the Christian mission of Lansdowne Baptist Church is service to our Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, community. Part of that service has long been providing scholarship money for two graduating high school seniors from the local William Penn School District, including a few of whom have been members of our own congregation. Each student has at least a 3.0 GPA, serves the community, and is involved in Christian activities. Scholarship award amounts have varied from $500 to $1000 per student each year, depending upon available funds in the Aaron M. Royal Memorial Scholarship account. It has always been a joy to provide these scholarships to local students. We have done so ever since Mr. Royal, an active church member and strong advocate for higher education, passed away in 1972 and memorial gifts in his honor established the scholarship.
Until recently, we have bolstered the scholarship funds with an annual Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast for the Lansdowne community. However, interest in the breakfast has been in decline lately and the scholarship fund has suffered.
So, now we are turning to you. If you feel this is a worthy cause, please donate so that we can continue to bless deserving students with scholarship funds to help them on their way.
We are looking to raise $5,000. That’s two $500 scholarships per year for five years. We would love to reach our goal within six months to be ready for next spring's graduating class. If we exceed our goal, we promise to award each deserving student more money each year for those five years.
