Financing a handicapped van

Donation protected
I was born with spinabifida and was able to get to the point where I could get around pretty good on my feet.  When I was thirteen I lost my left foot due to complications after surgery.  Nine years ago I was limping so bad that I eventually went to an orthopaedic clinic where it was determined that I needed a new right hip.  After a long recovery I was able to continue walking with a walker.  At that point it was determined that I could no longer continue to work and after some trouble I ended up on social security disability.  A little over 6 years ago I was involved in a head on collision after a young speeder lost control of his vehicle.  After three months in a rehab facility I was unable to rebuild the strength to resume walking and was released.  In 2007, the year my hip was replaced, most of my 401K funds vanished during the stock market crash so now I live mainly on social security retirement.  Insurance from my car accident provided me with the funds to get a car.  At that time I still had hopes of resuming walking and wasn't looking for a van. I am now rapidly getting to the point where I won't be able to travel away from home without assistance. My current transportation is a car with a powerchair rack on the back. Currently I am still able to load the chair, transfer to a four wheel walker and roll to the driver's side door, transfer into the car and then manhandle the walker into the back seat area. Doing this three or four times within the span of a couple of hours has become almost impossible. I've been looking for a handicapped equipped van but those that are old enough and therefore cheap enough for me to afford seem to be virtually nonexistent. Medicare doesn't consider a vehicle as a necessity and they will not assist in acquiring one. I have discovered that at a minimum a properly equipped and reasonably reliable minivan will cost me $10,000. I have seen where others have created a go fund me account seeking funds for personal needs and even though I am repulsed by the idea of begging for money I don't see many options in front of me other than becoming a shut in.
