Help us to purchase our building

We are a mental health charity based in Sandwell, West Midlands.  The charity was started in the 90s and  constituted in 2000 in response to a lack of cultural responsive services for people of African and Caribbean background suffering or recovering from severe and enduring mental ill health.  This group of people are the most stigmatised and have poorer life chances once they have been given a mental health diagnosis and being involved in the psychiatric system.   This has been well documented.
We are asking for help to purchase the Kuumba centre where we are based, because due to funding cuts we are unable to raise the necessary funds independently.  This has hindered our chances of purchasing the building so that we can turn it into a community facility that will benefit the community and people with mental health problems at a grass roots level.
If we managed to raise the funding to buy the building it would enable us to become independent.  What this would mean for us is that the building would be renovated to provide a much needed services for people living in one of the most socio economically poorer areas of the UK.  This would be staffed partly by volunteers who have mental health problems.  This would take away some of the pressure of having some of our funding reduced by  the local authority and give us the means to earn a much needed income and rely less on grants and funding from the statutory sector.
