Stolen Wheelchair/Medical Expenses

Donation protected
On Thursday April 28 (one day before the one year anniversary of my amputation resulting from a head-on auto collision with a drunk driver in 2004) my wheelchair, which I am highly dependent upon for mobility, was stolen from my workplace during my lunch break. After myself and numerous other coworkers searched frantically for the chair, we finally looked at surveillance tape to witness a van with two men pull up, throw my wheelchair in the back of their van, and drive away. We have no idea who these men were as they were simply driving through our parking lot, presumably from the Walmart next-door. While searching craigslist to see if perhaps the men had placed my wheelchair for sale, I found a wheelchair that I can use temporarily. The wheelchair is not rated to support my weight, so I will not be able to use it permanently. I contacted the vendor who supplied me with the wheelchair last year and was informed my wheelchair was $2,793.49. My insurance only covers one wheelchair every five years, so the purchase of a new chair will have to be out of pocket. I would be beyond appreciative of anything anybody would be willing to spare to assist me with this unforeseen expense. Feel free to share this page as well. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

I want to thank you all for your generous contributions. Not only will I be able to get a proper replacement wheelchair, I'm also able to make donations to MADD, Easter Seals and Amputee Coalition of America, all organizations that have helped me at some point in my journey. You're all also providing me the opportunity take care of current and future medical expenses, which, for an amputee with the complications I had, are something I'll be dealing with for the foreseeable future. I am truly blessed. *big hugs*

Also, a special thank you to KCTV5 for sharing my story. Hopefully the men who did this will come forward and be responsible for what they've done.
