Frida Bagonza is a woman from Tanzania, East Africa who is living in St. Paul, MN. Frida made the decision to return to the United States to get her advanced degree. This will enable her to teach and also provide a better way of life for her and her three children. She is studying at St. Theresa University in St. Paul, working toward her Masters Degree in accounting. Her goal is to teach at the University in Karagwa, Tanzania. Frida obtained her undergraduate degree 11 years ago while living in McFarland WI. She returned to Africa and has been working in a government office for the past several years.
She borrowed $10,000 to pay her living expenses and tuition, but this amount did not cover all her tuition and living expenses. After this summer, she still has two semesters to go to earn her degree. She needs $9,000 for the remaining 18 credits and $775/month for rent (through next spring). She has investigated many funding options, but because of her specific circumstances, she is not eligible for assistance from any organized programs. Money is running out fast and at this point, she is living day to day.
Besides caring for her family, Frida has used her past wages to support people in her community that are struggling to make ends meet. She has village children and relatives that count on her to help with school fees. If she is forced to return to Tanzania without her degree, she will still have these financial responsibilities, as well as the debt from the loan, and potentially no job at all.
Frida is a very caring, generous, and loving person. She works hard, as all Tanzanian women do. She knows the importance of an education and sets an example for all women. Frida is a Christian woman who took a huge leap of faith to come here, short of money, but praying that she would be able to find funding to complete her degree.
