Kerri Foland Scholarship
Kerri was my classmate in the physical therapist assistant program at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham Oregon. She was diagnosed with cancer during the program. Kerri went through surgery and treatment and was given a clear bill of health. Several months later she began to have pain in her stomach and found the cancer had returned and was untreatable. Kerri and her family made the difficult decision to go on Hospice and she lost her battle April 23rd 2010.
Kerri was a loving wife, mother, daughter, and friend. Kerri was an amazing woman. She had great compassion and loved the Lord. She was always there to lend a hand to someone in need. The Lord put it on my heart to create this scholarship to keep Kerri's caring legacy alive.
This scholarship is for physical therapist assistant students at Mt. Hood Community College. The student needs to have a 3.0, be involved in the community, be a 2nd year PTA student, and have financial need.
The scholarship is awarded once a year in the amount of $1,000. The student is awarded $500 fall term and $500 winter term.
The first recipient was Andrew Lopez and he stated, "Through grants and this scholarship I no longer have to stress about the financial aspect of school and can put more of my time towards my studies and focusing on aspects involving physical therapy. I just want to say thank you again for this wonderful scholarship and most importantly for establishing a scholarship to remind and let people know just how wonderful of a person Kerri Foland was."
So far we have raised $12,000 in a little over two years! Our goal is to reach $25,000. When we reach this goal the scholarship will become endowed and it will help PTA students indefinitely!
It is very exciting to see Kerri's dream come true of leaving a lasting legacy!
