Betty Reilley McMartin, AKA Mackee, was long time educator and lover of children. She dedicated her life to the needs of children. Her focus in schools was not the academics, but instead, caring for the emotional well being of all children with whom she came into contact. After 22 years of teaching in Edmond, Ok and Oklahoma City she has impacted so many lives. Her love for children reached far beyond the daily requirements of the classroom and into the personal lives of her students and their families. She was always involved in creating a community within a community based on love and peace. Giving of herself came naturally and without pause, as she identified a need in a student or family and immediately found a way to help them.
Music was her passion and she always found ways to bring it into the the classroom and use it to enrich children. Through Mackee's guitar playing and singing children would gather, as a single voice around her, and an inner peace would be found within the group. Smiles and love would abound as children would make eye contact with her and each other. Music is a universal language and Mackee spoke it with fluency.
Most recently, Mackee taught at Caesar Chavez Elementary School in South Oklahoma City. She immediately loved the community and found a home serving the schools Hispanic children and families. Her goal was to serve, and serve she did. Although many of her families had limited opportunities, with Mackee, the would be fewer limits.
This gofund account will be used to expand the opportunities of the children and families of Caesar Chavez and to continue Mackee's mission to serve.
