We are The Model Railroad Club of Union, NJ. We are a 501C3 educational charity, who's mission is to educate the general public about railroads and the industries they served in the New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania area.
This is accomplished through the building and operating of the Club's scale model railroad displays.
We are an activity of the Union County, NJ Park System and are open to the public every Saturday from 1p.m. to 4.p.m. at our location in Lenape Park in Union Township. The Club is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the building and for the model railroad displays.
We invite the public to our annual holiday light and sound show each fall beginning with the weekend after Thanksgiving.
Like any charity organization, we survive, thrive, or cease to exist based on the generosity of our friends. Our operating budget is very slim and we cannot handle unforseen capital expenses.
In the beginning of June, one of our HVAC air conditioning units broke down and required approximately $4000 worth of immediate repair.
In order to ensure the safety and comfort of our guests, we repaired the unit immediately. This has left us with a $4000 deficit in our budget, and has created a financially stressful situation for our charity.
We have tried to operate with this unexpected loss to our budget and are struggling to keep up. Our revenue for the year is only at 30% of our normal amounts. Our established fund raising campaigns have helped slightly, but have all fallen well short of expectations. Our bank account balance is dwindling weekly. Our membership is by law only allowed to generate one third of our actual revenue and cannot help via membership dues.
Your donation will go directly towards helping the Model Railroad Club, Inc negate this capital expenditure and focus on its educational purpose.
