My name is Kathleen and I write the blog Secretly Fabulous under the pseudonym of Michelle. I started off 2016 with a full time job, a boyfriend/fiance who I bought tickets to visit in the UK, and a debtload of just under $5,000... which I was sure I'd pay off soon. This was gong to be my year.
My mental health shattered, I had to leave my job for health reasons, and I lost my boyfriend all in April and May. My tickets for the visit were non-refundable but I managed to get back my taxes, which were just enough to take my 19 year old on a local trip to Niagara Falls for a night.
On top of that my debt load doubled. Some while waiting for Employment Insurance to kick in and most because I was suicidal at the time and more interested in keeping my offspring fed and sheltered than how the debt would get paid, especially since I was sure I'd be dead when the bills came due. I was nowhere near in my right mind at the time.
We left for Niagara Falls on August 30th with a direct deposit notice for enough money to cover my half of the rent plus a bit left over. We came back and the money hadn't been deposited. It never will be as the cheque was cancelled the day my rent was due. I didn't get any notice and had already spent my employment insurance on bills and groceries.
What I need urgently is $680 (Canadian) to cover this month's rent. Anything above that amount will go toward debt.
My 19 year old is autistic and, in some ways, very naive. When I told them we were broke and facing eviction. They nodded, said they understood, then told me they need an emergency sata cable for the computer and started telling me jokes. They have no idea how serious this is. Right now they have a home they love and I desperately want to keep it that way. Your money can help keep both of us (I'm autistic as well) in our safe home.
