Cancer Strikes Twice In This House

Donation protected
My wife is a 31 year survivor of Breast Cancer, and this is the start of our story.

In Feb 2017 I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia (CLL) and experienced a major surgery to remove a 17 Lb spleen. Two months later, I recovered from the surgery and returned home, fully functional but aware of being autoimmune.

In April my wife said she had a problem, explaining she thought her breast cancer had returned.  Off to the hospital, many MRIs, PETs and other Scans were completely only to confirm her breast cancer had really returned.  And, with a vengeance.  She was Stage IV, with Breast, Lung, Bone, and Kidney Cancer. We immediately started the strongest Chemo program available.  Good news, six months later her body was in full remission. After that on a normal MRI and checkup, the Drs discovered Brain Lesions and Tumors. Chemo and Radiation were scheduled.

It was around this time my left ankle started to swell and there were red splotches on both of my feet.  I put myself aside and provided for my weakened wife.

My wife’s continued Chemo was stopped, radiation was stopped and she is currently being cared for by her Daughter and Mother along with a Sitter Service. She falls routinely, and now her back is fractured in two locations.

At the end of October 2018, I found myself with two open wounds on my feet and battling an infection not associated with CLL.  However, I experienced a shortness of breath like I’d never felt before. I called my friend who took me to our hospital (an hour and a half travel one way).  I was immediately admitted.

Blood clots in my legs and lungs were a huge concern and the Doctor Teams went to work. Six Doctor Teams, to include two Scientist Teams we’re baffled.  Was this CLL or not?
They still have not found conclusive results except everything which is wrong with me, is CLL related.

I’ve been here since late Oct.  My wife is to weak to travel so, our daily phone calls are important.  We continue to fight this horrific disease.

As a Marine Corps Veteran, I never thought this would happen to me. I was in good physical shape, planning retirement, and looking forward to a normal life. My Doctor even told me, I’d die of something other than CLL, so go forth and enjoy life.

Our intent for using GoFundMe, is two/fold.  Any donations will be used to offset medical and personal bills while we recover and in my wife’s case, to make her as comfortable as can be. Secondly, I will close this Account at the end of March 2019.  And funds not used or remaining will be donated to Cancer Research organizations.  I will be working closely with  my bank to ensure ethical use of donations.

I sincerely appreciate your prayers and consideration to donate.  We already consider ourselves blessed however your consideration to contribute  is gratefully appreciated. Lastly, please forward this story for wide dissemination. Two years ago, I didn’t know much about cancer. Now, I know more and want to spread the word of these diseases.

Many thanks in advance....
