Traveling to Beantown Dance Camp/College

Hello!

My name is Joshua Mclean. I am 18 and I have a burning, can't-sit-still-when-I-hear-the-music passion for swing and jazz dancing.

I started dancing when I was 15 at a High School club hoping to meet new people (yes, ladies too). Soon after I began learning the basics, I began to discover how this crazy awesome dance was starting to become a more and more important part of my life every day. My friends knew that If a week went by and I didn't hit the dance floor, they were promised a very grumpy Josh!

In the summer of 2012, I was honored with the "The Frankie Manning Lindy Hop Ambassador Scholarship" for my passion and committment to the dance and it's culture and my efforts to spread it to other youth in my community. I was awarded an all expenses paid trip to Beantown Dance Camp in Beverly, MA. as you can see by the highlight reel above (Me in the rainbow hat! and in a jam circle) Beantown was fully of awesome people, amazing dancers, hot and sweet jazz, and many unforgettable experiences. My last day there I knew i would try and make a point to frequent the camp in the future.

However, the opportunity came sooner than expected! The very next year, the offciators of the camp contact me and asked me to come back, offering both myself and my dance partner free admission to the camp and 25% off our room and board (butterflies!). BUT, This year they are unable to cover our flights as well. We both have jobs and are trying to raise money in our respective communities to afford this trip.

ALSO: I have been accepted to Morehouse college! Famous alumni include Samuel L. Jackson, Spike Lee, and Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr! I am excited to take my place among the student body at Morehouse and I wish to visit the campus after Beantown.

Flights: Being covered by other sources!

Beantown: $453 x 2 ($906 total)
Morehouse college stay: $69 a night, for 1 week. ($483 total)
