River's hip replacement

I am Julia Cox and I am trying to raise money for my dog River.
He is a black lab mix. He will be one on 10-22-16. The vet says this is very common in labs but not until they are very old. If he doesn't have the hip replacement surgery he will eventually not be able to walk. We have been told that River was born with this problem and because he is so young and has his whole life ahead of him we really need to get this done for him.
He is currently on pain medication that helps controls the pain very well for now, but everyday that passes he will only get worse so we are anxious to have the surgery as soon as possible. Our first consultation with an orthopedic in Athens, GA is October, 27th. From there we will need to set a date for the actual surgery. As of now we have 2,400 set aside but the cost is 5,000. Please read below the story of how River came into my family, and what a blessing a dog truly is.
River was rescued from the pound by a friend at my mom's work. After having River for about a week they decided River was to much work to take care of so my moms friend asked if she wanted a dog. We really didn't need another animal because my dad had been laid off of work and had been out for about 8 months, but River had already had all his shots and had been fixed. So my mom brought him home. This was the best thing that had ever happen to us. River brought so much love and happiness to my family. At a time when money was tight, my mom and dad where depressed because of money and bills. My brother and I felt bad about everything going on. River was laid a gift from God to our house. He is so loving and smart. We couldn't imagine life without him.
If we are unable to get the money for the surgery we will eventually have to put him down when the pain gets worse. He is too young and truly to live a happy healthy life and there are so many things I have yet to do with him.
This means so much to me and my family. We do not like having to ask for money but there isn't much we wouldn't do to save our River boy. We would be so thankful to anyone that would be willing to give. It takes a special kind of person to help out a stranger or friend with their dog, but I promise my River boy is not "just a dog" he is simply an angle who was sent to bring me and my family happiness and hope.
