Meet Jane Raftery

Words can't describe how our hearts are grieving when it comes to telling you about our beloved sister and friend Jane Raftery. We write today to share her story as well as the great need we are praying YOU can help meet.
Jane is a beautiful single and open-hearted woman. She is a loving, talented, creative and deeply spiritual soul who is devoted to her family, her church and her friends. Tragically, a few short weeks ago, Jane felt exhausted and weak, and inexplicably lost so much weight she was barely recognizable. Her concerned family took her to the ER, and on September 21, Jane learned that she has liver and colon cancer. After a frantic stressful weak of biopsies and x-rays, an oncologist confirmed that Jane does indeed have Advanced Stage 4 liver and colon cancer. Given the diagnosis, it won’t take long before this robust and joyful woman will be housebound and need 24 hour care. Her doctors say most patients given this diagnosis do not want to accept chemo, but Jane has such a powerful and determined character that she decided to at least give it a try and pray for the best.
In this life Jane has played many roles: sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, friend, confidant, mentor, advisor, and devout Christian, as well as a highly successful Human Resource expert in NY, Atlanta and DC. She is a gifted interior decorator, an artist and a musician. She even starred in her own Broadway review in NY, and just last year sang her heart out in “Don’t Rain on My Parade” here in DC in a show tunes review which won rave reviews.
As a devout Christian and loving daughter, Jane stayed close to her father and her mother as they grew ill and allowed them both to die in dignity, close to their families. Over the years, Jane has volunteered to comfort sick infants, support troubled teens, and nurture family and friends as they have grown ill, died and grieved.
Now her family is determined that Jane also needs to be surrounded by her family and friends as well when she needs them the most. We've started this fundraiser to assist with the cost of medical support and treatment for Jane in the coming months. She is currently only able to work in a limited capacity and the astronomical cost of cancer treatment and home care is daunting. Currently she is being cared for by her sisters and a home health nurse. Her family and friends continue to provide any support that they can to assist.
Financial assistance is definitely needed though, so anything you can donate is extremely appreciated.
Jane is walking through the final stages of life here on earth. With this walk comes fears and pressures of the unknown challenges that lay ahead. In all of it we know Jane will require more in-home care and that will require finances to ensure her transition is as peaceful and love filled as possible.
This journey is frightening and hard. Jane and her family are clinging to God. And they are weary. But we don't want to see financial limitations keep Jane from getting the care she needs and prevent her family and friends from experiencing peace by knowing she is in good hands and near the family who loves and cares for her.
Our goal is raise $50,000 which will cover costs for in-home care for the next few months as well as funeral and burial costs. Her family is praying they can allow Jane to be laid to rest next to her father and mother who she cared for as they died, and who loved and cared for her deeply.
