Let there be Never-ending Light 2017
Donation protected
Let there be. Let there always be never-ending light! It requires a tremendous amount of mass to be accumulated before a gas giant planet will ignite and become a lukewarm mildly heat generating, but only on the surface, brown dwarf star. Sounds a lot like people actually. But if one wishes to bear a torch and shine a light so bright that all the world can see, they must accumulate a massive amount of more energy and resources to be donated so that they can be able to bear the burden of providing that light we all require even though they will eventually expire having giving their everything to shine so brightly. This is what being a fire dancer means to me! This also what I'm ever so obligated to do and is required in order for me to be one here in the City of Seattle.
Real talk: The City's Fire Marshal's office permits department requires an annual fee of $500 for their Special Events open flame effects permit. This was already a tremendous burden upon me financially as I have dedicated my whole entire life to be committed 100% to providing this service which pays me an annual salary of maybe $10,000 if I'm lucky and don't lose out on gigs to under bidding new amateur performers who wish to separate from under my wing and try to compete with me instead of joining in and launching into one solid business venture with the most experienced as the formal decision maker yet is always ever willing to see to each individual's fair opportunities are offered and payment for their time and skill is given. Now starting this year I, as the sole responsible party named on the fire permit, am also required to provide proof of insurance basically so that I alone will be held liable for any risk of injury or property damage that may occur at a performance sanctioned under me. The policy that I will carry only covers me as an individual performer and not the whole of risk of sharing my privilege as a permit holder and is an additional expense of $375 per year. To complete the additional figure being requested here is the 7% fee that go fund me will keep rounded up to a nice even number because it advises that we aim to go over our goal which we have never in fact met fully but this is acceptable, of course, because I plan to and will be paying the difference and certainly contributing myself out of pocket.
Every year I have other hobbyist fire performers not yet attaining to be the sole one responsible for holding their own permit scoff at me for asking for help with paying these fees. Do you want to be responsible and liable to be sued for others performances who are less experienced than you? Have you developed an understanding and relationship with the Fire Dept. personally for the past 8 years? Have you completed the requirement of booking and buying 2 single event permits at an expense of $185 each and then paid a Fire Marshal's office representative hourly for off duty hours to be present for those 2 performances so that you can then purchase yourself the above described additional $875 in legal requirements? Then perhaps you should join me instead of be against me? I have an open door policy, always have and always will. Let there be never-ending light so that someone will bear the torch after I expire... I'm not dead, yet. ;) Cheers ~
