50 Years of Doctor Who float

Donation protected
This is the GoFundMe collection page for the Doctor Who Club of Australia's float for this year's Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, which starts on 20 September, 2013. 60% of the profits will go to the Starlight Children's Foundation, to keep the joy spreading through the younger generations! The other 40% will stay within our local not-for-profit organisation to assist with meeting and venue costs.

Who are we?
The DWCA is a nation-wide club celebrating the television show Doctor Who. We cater to all ages, offering regular meetings and screenings. The Toowoomba branch covers Toowoomba (SEQ) and surrounds, although a Brisbane-based branch of the DWCA covers areas further towards the coast.
You can find a full description of our activities and history on the About section of our website: http://dwca.org.au/?q=section/about-dwca.

What is the Carnival of Flowers, and why this year?
The Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers is an annual spring festival held in Toowoomba, Queensland - our home town. More information on the festival can be found here: http://www.tcof.com.au/ . The bits that are important to us: there is a parade event included in the ten-day celebration, attracting people from all over the country. What better way to share our love of the program with as many people as possible?
Why this year? Doctor Who started off in 1963, making its 50th birthday this year. It's perfect timing and this parade the perfect way to celebrate. This means our due date for the first $1400 is 10th September so we can start construction.

Why do we need money from you?
Whilst the DWCA itself in national, each branch is responsible for any special funding it must do. That's where you come in! This page will also be used to collect funds from other branches that have the ability to donate.

For what will we be using the money?
We've a good base design up the top of this page. What we have is labour, and labour only - so we need to have funds for hiring a car similar to the one in the image (or as close to a Doctor Who vehicle as we can get!) and for hiring - or preferably buying, so we can make changes to it if need be - a float or long trailer. We will also need timber, for the frame to secure and support the TARDIS and the flowers. We will need MDF or ply for the sidings, as well as some sort of translucent plastic. We will also need funds to hire the TARDIS through this mob - http://www.hireatardis.com.au/. We've also got a LOT of printing to do, for the logos and signs. And we still have to have flowers - this is a flower festival, after all!So, to sum up -
- TARDIS (possibly up to $300)
- Trailer - HAS NOW BEEN DONATED! THANK YOU!
- Timber for the frame (About $400 to make it safe)
- MDF, plastic, and ply (About $600 - we will need at least ~8m2 C or D grade of the MDF and ply, and a few m2 of the plastic)
- Printing (Unknown cost)
- Costs associated with vehicle - HAS NOW BEEN DONATED! THANK YOU!
- Flowers - change of plan here. We have a budget of loosely $400 for flowers, and from there on we will probably get... creative.

We are very lucky to have volunteers working on construction, driving, and cosplay!

Why GoFundMe? - and notes on that
We are using GoFundMe so you know we are who we say we are, as well as collecting everything in one easily accessible site.
Please note, though, that GFM does take a 5% chunk out of your donation - don't be alarmed.
Who am I? My name is Ellie and I am based in Rockhampton. Don't be suspicious! I'm helping out as I can, given I have good, reliable Internet.

I haven't any money. How can I help?
1. Share this page! Frantically! Share it with not just the obvious candidates (on Facebook and Twitter), but with EVERYONE - your boss, your favourite actor, your local member - EVERYONE! You never know who can help!
2. and 3. - "Find and volunteer a suitable landie and trailer" - have now been done already!
4. If you can, host a fundraiser for us! All our local joints for charity barbies (Officeworks, Bunnings...) are booked out until waaay too late.
5. If you think you can offer your skills and tools for the construction phase - let us know! We can always use another pair of hands - especially if you have experience in restoring mechanical things (read: landie) or in engineering.
