Hello, my name is Eric Humphrey and my book is a autobiography about life, love, loss, abuse and the truth behind the creation of the comic book called The Crow by James O'Barr. I wrote this book to honor the memory of my beloved Tammie Lynn Grimes and to finally be free of this story that has haunted me most of my life. I hope you will take the time to consider what you are about to read and understand that there are some painful memories of lost love that we never ever get over and, others that literally change us forever!
For years James O'Barr has claimed that he started working on the comic book back in 1981 after the loss of someone he loved. This is a lie, and the use of forensics can prove that this statement to be a lie! James O'Barr did not start working on the comic book the Crow until Halloween night 1988. It was on October 31, 1988 that James O'Barr and I met in a little Goth nightclub called City Club located in downtown Detroit, inside the Leland Hotel on the corner of Cass and Bagley; Times Square district. It was there that James O'Barr approached me and asked me what I was before asking me if he could base a comic book on me. After talking for quite a while about deeply personal tragedies. James O'Barr and I exchanged numbers and came to the agreement that he would dedicate the very first issue of his comic book to my beloved Tammie Lynn Grimes as payment for my Story, Image and Alter ego. This was the agreement we made. I kept up my end of the bargain by talking to Mr. O'Barr whenever he called my house and, sharing with him the most painful moments of my life! But Mr. O'Barr did not keep up his end of the bargain. He never dedicated the very first issue of the comic book the Crow to Tammie Lynn Grimes as we agreed upon. I don't think it was too much to ask; to have your most beloved friend immortalize with a simple dedication. Therefore he has always been in breach of our verbal contract which he shook hands on. “James O'Barr is not an honorable man” I've always felt like he took advantage of me but, what upsets me most of all is the feeling that he disrespected my beloved Tammie which, at times makes me want to kill the disrespectful little Fucker; excuse my language. But Tammie meant the world to me at the time of her death, and in a lot of ways she still does.
Now there are a few ways to prove that what I have just told you is the truth and that what O'Barr has been saying for the last two decades is a lie.
One is through the use of forensics to determine exactly when O’Barr began working on the comic book the Crow. Paper can be tested to see exactly when and where it was made to the date. Certain inks and paints can also be tested to see exactly when and where they were made. Testing also can be done to see how long exactly certain inks or paints have been on a piece of paper/when they were applied to the paper. Testing of James O’Barr’s artwork will show that there are no drawings of the character known as Eric/the Crow done by him on paper from 1981 to November 1 of 1988. This will prove that James O’Barr is lying and should also make you question; how would this guy know this if I wasn’t telling the truth.
Second photographic evidence of me dressed up on Halloween between the years of 1982 to 1988. (Friends and acquaintances that have photographs of me from back then need to be tracked down either through the use of private investigator or getting my story out into the public.)
Third phone records proving that James O’Barr called my residence through the month of November 1988. (I cannot obtain these phone records without filing a lawsuit against Mr. O’Barr which, is something I cannot afford at this time.
Fourth tracking down friends and acquaintances from my pass that remember me and how I dressed on Halloween. These people be able to testify on my behalf.
Fifth Police reports that were filed that give an accurate description of me from those I assaulted on Halloween in downtown Detroit around the Times Square district between the years of 1985 to 1988. Including the assault I made on Tammie’s killer Lawrence Hon back in 1988 and Clarkston Michigan.
Six finding and talking to those individuals I helped or harmed on Halloween in downtown Detroit between the years of 1985 to 1989.
Seventh ask yourself why does the cover of the very first issue of the comic book the Crow look like this guy/. Also ask yourself; why is this watercolor so detailed unlike any of the other covers or images done by James O’Barr of the Crow/Erik/me, Eric Humphrey. (James O’Barr told me that he did this watercolor the night we met and that is why it looks so much like me.)
Eighth tracking down and talking to the four individuals that were there the night James O’Barr and I met. Along with talking to friends, acquaintances and people he worked with from back in 1988 while he was working on the comic book. Including finding out what type of person Mr. O’Barr is known to be through his past relationships.
Ninth asked Mr. O’Barr why none of his earlier artwork or first drawings of the Crow are dated. I personally try to track down artwork he claims to of done between the years of 1981 to 1988 that is dated. From all the websites I have checked and people I have talked to none of them possessing the artwork done by him and he stated between the years of 1981 to 1987 I would also asked Mr. O’Barr if he would be willing to take a lie detector test to back up his claims that he started this comic book on his own and when he started working on the comic.
These are just a few of the ways I can think of to prove to you that I am telling the truth and that I am the real Erik that James O’Barr base the comic book the Crow on. I know that if someone was to investigate my story they would discover that everything I have stated here is 100% true!
My autobiography was originally published by e.fingertips publishing but, after I complained about the editing and not receiving a full account of how many eBooks sold during the two months it was out they dropped my book and, broke off all communications with me. I am now attempting to fully self-publish my book on my own but, I no longer have the funds to do so. I need your help to see this hope and dream of mine through to completion.
I have spent the last several months looking at different self-publishing companies along with different methods of publishing, interviewing independent editors and working up a rough estimate of how much it would cost me to republish my book. If I went with one of the larger self-publishing companies it would cost me between $8,000 and $15,249 to have the book published by them. To publish it 100% on my own it could cost me between $20,000 and $25,000 most of that going to editing, marketing, and maintaining a web page for one year. My book has a word count of 428,596 in print my book would be over 11,000 pages long and, at three cents per word it would cost me $14,286.35 just to have it edited. I am looking at editing the book down to bring the price down but some of the well-established editors I've talked to charge anywhere between $.03 and $.05 per word. To fully publish on my own I need a DBA, additional ISBN numbers, LCCN, Editor (consulting and project manager), Website and designer, e-book conversion software and security software, Marketing funds (newspaper articles in multiple states, postcards, posters and other related materials), photographer and cover designer. Two of the ISBN numbers for my book are 9780985173999, 9780985173944
In my book I talk about everything that I can remember that has shaped me in one form or another. I talk about my childhood and what it was like growing up in fear of my stepmother. The injustices I witnessed and experienced myself. What it was like growing up in Pontiac Michigan. The women I have loved and how the loss of Tammie shaped and changed me for most of my life. How I became a vigilante on Halloween. How I met James O’Barr and the creation of the comic book the Crow. I also talk about my time severing our country in the United States Navy and my participations in operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm and, how we were exposed to biological weapons and given undocumented vaccinations (cover-up on board the USS Midway).
I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my Go Fund Me page and hope that you will find my story compelling and worth donating to. If you would like to know more please take a look at the video above or look me up on YouTube by type in Erik Da’Raven. You can also find me on Google under the name Erik Da”Raven or on my Facebook page supporting my book by taking in “I Want to Be Loved the Way You Want to Be Loved” (these are the first and last loving would Tammie ever say to me). Once again thank you for your time.
