It was a lifelong dream for me to open Arkham Gift Shoppe. Things got underway during the Summer of 2008. Unfortunately, after signing my lease in August, the economy went south in a hurry. For the first 2-3 years, sales were very difficult to come by and I dug a big hole trying to keep the store afloat. Now, that my customer base has grown and sales have increased, I'm finding it difficult to grow the shop in the areas that are necessary for it's survival.
If you've been to Arkham Gift Shoppe, you know that the shop is small and that I have a very limited selection of back issues. The goal is to be able to relocate to a bigger location and be able to better feature, and grow, my back stock, as well as grow the shop's inventory in other areas.
Also, sharing a building with a lawn mower repair shop is exposing me to fumes and toxins that are not good for my personal health. This is another, more serious reason for me to relocate.
I don't think that the shop will survive, if I'm forced to stay in my current location. Realistically, I will need more than $5000, but this is a good beginning. It may take several years to be in a position to relocate the shop, but it's time to get the ball rolling.
I truly appreciate the generosity of anybody who would like to contribute to this fund. I wouldn't have set up this page if I wasn't desperate, at this point. Hopefully, I'll be able to keep my comic book store going for many years to come. Thank you!
