IMC Leeds Registration Costs
I am a humanities graduate, with a doctorate in medieval history. Only 20% of humanities PhD graduates will gain an academic job. Many of the 80% have taken other non-academic jobs but are still actively looking to get their dream academic job!
In order to boost the chances, I and many many others will continue to conference, and try to publish in order to keep ourselves in the game. We do this in addition to our full-time jobs. And it is expensive! And without recourse to bursuries, travel grants, research grants, etc., this will come out of our pockets.
I am looking to cover the costs for IMC Leeds 2016 , the second largest medieval conference in the world. I have been invited to speak as part of the Oxford Medieval Diet Group and I desperately don't want to let them down. The title of my paper is "The Medieval Table as a Noble Space: Diet and Feasting in 12th-Century Table Manner Poems".
£135 for registration would help me afford to attend the conference for 1 day. That may not seem much, but when you had travel costs it can add up.
Any money in excess of the £135 would help with travel costs and future conferences (I am also attending Harlaxton 2016 for a total of £400). Fr
Read more about this here on my blog, Beyond the Doctorate !
My example:
In July I will attend two conferences, and am presenting at both (the second of which was a personal invitation to present):
International Medieval Congress, Leeds, July 2016
One-Day Pass c. £135.00
Travel c.£80
Harlaxton Symposium, Lincolnshire, July 2016.
Registration and Accommodation c. £400
Travel c.£80
Please help in any small way!
Should a publication or proceedings come from this, I will include contributors in my acknowledgements to express my gratitude.
