3 Marathons in 3 Months for GCS!

Tax deductible
Like many others, one of my immediate responses to the events at the Boston Marathon this past April was that I could no longer run just for myself. That if I was going to put so much effort into something, there had to be an outcome beyond my own ego-boost and physical fitness.

I spent months trying to decide on the perfect fundraising theme, and I toggled between several options. Like so many things in life, the answer was right there with me everyday: it's my workplace, my career, my passion, my inspiration, and so often, my humility.

I work at a Chicago-area non-profit agency that provides residential and day program services (vocational/recreational/therapuetic) to adults who have intellectual and developmental disabilties. If you've ever worked for a human-services related non-profit then you know that it is a constant struggle to keep the money flowing in order to provide the best services possible.

At Garden Center Services
our specific area of service can be particularly challenging to keep "in the black" because in terms of state and federal funding the services our consumers rely on are often the first ones cut when the legislators go to work.

Your contribution here will go toward providing the best services to our consumers, this includes: supplementing basic medical needs such as dental visits, developing programming that is challenging, meaningful and rewarding, such as community integrated work groups and vocational skills classes, and to to achieving dreams, like visiting NYC or taking cooking classes. There is no limit to what a person can dream, and with the right support there is no limit to what our consumers can achieve.

This fall I'm running 3 marathons in 3 months, the first one is in just two weeks, on September 1st (Minocqua, WI), the next on October 13th (Chicago Marathon), and the last on November 9th (Catalina Eco, California). I run because I feel incomplete without it, and because it brings me joy. I'm running for GCS because I want for nothing more than for our consumers to be provided the opportunity to pursue what brings them joy.
