A Mobility Service Dog For Leah

Donation protected
Hi! My name is Shayla (I'm in the mask), I'm 11, and this is my mom, Leah. This is us at Christmas (2016) when my mom was in the hospital.

She has been sick for a while. She has lots of different things wrong, like a rare thing called a connective tissue disorder (that makes her joints pop apart), one called POTS that causes her blood pressure and heart rate to go crazy, another rare one called Mast Cell Activation Syndrome and she also lost the use of her bladder to Neuropathy, just to name a few.

She hurts a lot most of the time and it's hard for her to do things for very long (like walk) or even do them at all (like open jars or cut vegetables). She has to be careful walking and bending, reaching and lifting.

She will always have these illnesses. And some will make her feel worse as she gets older. I help her with some things, and we live with my grandparents, who also help her. But we can't be there all the time and we think she needs some extra help. She needs a Mobility Service Dog.

A Mobility Service Dog would help her around the house by picking up things she drops or bringing things she needs, like her blood pressure cuff. When she goes out the dog would help her walk safely, carry things too heavy for her, and even help her pull her wheel chair if needed. The dog would also alert others if she gets too sick to help herself.

A Mobility Service Dog needs to be the right size (about 70 pounds), have lots of training, and be obedient. Dogs like this are very expensive and my mom's insurance doesn't help with getting a Service Dog.

It takes over a year to raise and train a Service Dog. She is on a waiting list, and there is a dog already there being trained. So she could get a dog soon. But because my mom can't work, and my grandparents are already taking care of our other stuff, we need your help to get her the dog she needs.

So, will you help me get my mom a Mobility Service Dog? Any amount you can give is fine. Anything will help no matter how big or how small. We will keep you posted on new stuff that happens and post pictures too. Thanks!
