Marine Mammal Conference Fundraiser!
Donation protected
I have an amazing opportunity to present my research at an international conference on the Biology of Marine Mammals in New Zealand! I've been accepted to present a poster on the beginning of my dissertation research which is very exciting! Not only do I get to present, but because this conference is in New Zealand, instead of the U.S., there will be an opportunity to meet and network with a collection of scientists in my field that may not otherwise travel all the way to U.S. conferences. My poster presentation is titled: Preliminary abundance, distribution and site-fidelity patterns of bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) in Pensacola Bay, Florida.
I've received some support from travel grants but it only covers about half the costs so far. So I am running my first 10k on November 23rd and turning to crowd-funding as an alternative to help find additional support. I've never been much of a runner so this 10k will be quite a challenge! I started training for it a few weeks ago and I'm up to about a 5k now (although I am very slow). Just a few weeks left before the big race. Any support you may be able to offer will be greatly appreciated!
This opportunity will allow me to attend invaluable professional workshops, network and share my research with scientists from around the world and learn from experts in my field.
In addition to racing to raise funds for my conference travel, I chose a race with an important cause, called "Race for Their Lives". According to the site... it's a Freedom event that raises awareness and funds to bring sexually exploited women and children into freedom. Poverty has forced hundreds of thousands of women into sexual slavery and prostitution. It is estimated that two children are sold into slavery every minute, sometimes by their own parents.
For anything I raise over $200, I've decided I will donate an additional 10% to the race cause. Therefore, you're single donation will help support TWO causes!
