Medical Service Dog Fund
My name is Raven. I have PTSD, Borderline personality disorder, and schizophrenia. After much research I made the decision to get a service dog to assist with daily living. We rescued a dog for the purpose but as with most rescue dogs he wasn't able to complete training due to issues in his past.
Service dog trainers and handlers recommended to me that I choose a puppy from a breeder as it was increadibly more likely to pass training than a rescue dog.
After months of research and contacting hundreds for breeders I finally found a breed that suits my needs best, the english mastiff. The breeder I intend to work with is giving me a great deal on the dog because I'm using it for service work.
However, their female they intended to breed this year went into heat early and will be having puppies much earlier in the year than we had thought, which doesn't leave me enough time to earn the money I need for the dog.
The puppy itself is $1000, a good price considering the dog comes with a 2 year health guarentee, papers, full pedigree and full health testing for parents, and its puppy shots complete. The additional $500 will cover gofundme fees and travel costs to pick up the puppy. I'm not asking for any help with training costs or care costs, I can handle that, but I wasn't prepared for the cost of the dog before summer.
A service dog means freedom for me. For me, a service dog means a way to know the difference between what is real and what is hallucination, it means the security to feel safe leaving home to shop or go to the library or the park with my child. A service dog means a chance to live more like an average person, and an average parent. I can't express how much that can mean to my life right now.
