Toys Go 'Round is a unique toy lending library located in Decorah, Iowa. Toys are checked out in the same way as in a book library. This unique toy lending library offers over 1,000 toys for families, grandparents, child care providers, teachers and non-profit programs to check out. The Decorah Library provides in-kind space for the toy library but it is otherwise completely self-sufficient and is a 501(c)3 non-profit agency.
The toy library has been in operation for 24 years and is a unique service for persons living in the Winneshiek County area. Toys Go 'Round firmly believes that Playing is Learning and strives to provide a variety of toys for a child's learning experiences.
Thousands of children have benefited from playing with
They have developed many important skills while palying with the toys - large & small motor, reasoning, manipulative, STEM and the art of pretend play. In additon, they have learned the imortance of sharing with others and taking good care of the toys so that someone else can play with them when they bring them back. They have also developed organizational skills as they learn to keep all the pieces together!
The toy library expects normal wear & tear on the toys and the occasional lost pieces. Through the years, many hands have worked to keep the toy lending library in tip-top shape!
Toys Go 'Round recently experienced a cut in funding from a local funding source and is using this means to seek funds to help keep the toy library open the minimal 14 hours a week which it is now open. If we exceed our goal, we may even be able to open up another afternoon a week as we march towards 25 years of providing a unique toy lending service to the community.
