My name is Brittany Hudson and I am Miss Northwest Plus USA 2014! My whole life I have wanted to compete in pageants and help the less fortunate, but my psyche due to my weight would not allow that. The Miss Plus USAâ„¢ Pageant allows plus size women to follow their dreams, compete in pageants representing their platforms, build confidence and body acceptance and break the stigma around pageantry. I am now fundraising for my journey to the National competition next August!
I am a Southern University A & M Alumni with a BS in biology and at present employed by Apria Healthcare. Currently, I am a graduate student at Davenport University pursuing my MBA, plus size model, and social chair for the Urban League Young Professionals in Portland, Oregon. I am also a member of the Zeta Sigma Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated and I love my sorority deeply.
My platform is Human trafficking Awareness. "Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery where people profit from the control and exploitation of others. As defined under U.S. federal law, victims of human trafficking include children involved in the sex trade, adults age 18 or over who are coerced or deceived into commercial sex acts, and anyone forced into different forms of "labor or services," such as domestic workers held in a home, or farm-workers forced to labor against their will. The factors that each of these situations have in common are elements of force, fraud, or coercion that are used to control people." Since I moved to the Northwest region I have come into contact with many victims of Human trafficking and it pulls on my heart strings. I hope to spread the word about Human trafficking and send funds to aid in volunteer work to hopefully one day eradicate this problem. Any money left over will be donated to the Human trafficking programs located in Portland, Oregon such as Oath.
In order to compete in the National Miss Plus USAâ„¢ Pageant I must pay an entry fee, as well as purchase fashion and accessories, take photos, take care of travel fees and more. All of this is a lot to take on and I would greatly appreciate your help in achieving my dreams! It would be an honor to represent the Northwest region at the national competition. I am so grateful to have this opportunity.
