Gayle Friedman is a young woman who's kidneys have failed and her body is filling with toxins. She needs renal dialysis to stay alive, right now. Although Medicare will pay for her dialysis, it won't pay for transportation for her to get to the dialysis clinic. She cannot drive and has no family, neighbors, or anybody that can transport her to the dialysis clinic, which she will need to go to three times a week. She lives outside of Covington, GA where there is no public transportation. The meager income she has from Social Security Disability is not sufficient for her live on, much less pay for a taxi or other transportation. She is desperately in need of money so that she can make it to the dialysis treatment center, 7 miles away. Otherwise, she is simply going to die in her home.....soon.
Gayle has other problems too, such as Charcot's, a chronic orthopedic condition in her right foot that makes walking without her brace impossible. She has diabetes, a shoulder that chronically dislocates and other medical conditions for which she needs treatment. Friends and family have been able to transport her on occassion to medical appointments, but this is not dependable and she misses more appointments than she makes.
Gayle is a fine, caring and intelligent woman who has simply drawn the short straw in life when it comes to medical illlness. She is the kind of person we want around. She should live, if we can help her. The thought of her slowly dying in a small house in Porterdale because of gaps in our healthcare system is wrong. Please help Gayle live, please contribute today.
