Donate now to get Leona to Louisville!!
This is to help my Mother, Leona to get to Louisville, KY in September 2014 for a book event she has been invited to. She recently wrote her first (and only so far) book at the age of 70 called Hemphill Towers.
Leona has Muscular Dystrophy and is also deaf. She has been wheelchair bound for over 30 years and the handicapped van that she has had for the last 20 years is no longer reliable. We are afraid she will be stranded just using the current van to take her to Dr appointments etc!! Without the use of a handicapped van she cannot travel or leave her home. We are asking for help to be able to RENT a van for that weekend of the book event to get her to Louisville and to help with her travel expenses. It is going to cost almost 1,000 just for van rental for the weekend.
Since her hands are drawn up from the Muscular Dystrophy she had to type the entire book using an unsharpened pencil to type on the keyboard.....needless to say it took her longer than it would a person without disabilities but she stuck to it. It would be nice to think that she would make lots of money from the writing of her book but since she is not a well known author needless to say that has not happened!!
You can purchase the book at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or museitup Publishing.
I want to thank anyone and everyone who takes the time to read my Mother's story and donates to her cause. She would never ask for anything herself. May God bless you!!
