Support Teukie's Journey to Korea!

Donation protected
Hi friends,

TEUKIE GOES TO KOREA --- We're writing on behalf of our oppa/bestie/family, Teukie Jae, to support them in traveling to Korea. Teukie oppa is a queer, fat, non-binary, disabled Korean diasporic adoptee artist, burlesque performer, writer and activist. Diasporic people do not have easy access to their homelands, whether it is because of colonialism, border policing, lack of resources, or inaccessibility. At the same time, people who have no connection to the land have the luxury to travel anywhere they desire as tourists.

Teukie found their birth mother, after three years of searching, this December. The two of them are just now starting to connect. Although Teukie isn't sure if they'll be able to reunite with their mom, these developments are pulling Teukie even more to Korea. They dream of feeling confident enough in their Hangul to handwrite a letter to their birth mother. These dreams are taking Teukie to Korea this fall to experience Korea intentionally and fully, and participate in the transformative work being done around adoption, support for unwed mothers, and queer youth in Korea - in addition to full-time intensive Korean language study.

The cost for a 5-to-7-month intensive study is over $10,000. This money will cover lodging, tuition, airfare, food, gear for an extremely cold winter, and more. Teukie oppa is working their disabled/chronically ill ass off to make this trip happen and will be more than halfway there at the time of travel, but the remaining amount is still more than any of us have.

REQUEST

Please join us in fundraising $4,000 to make Teukie's travels possible. If 400 people give $10-20, we will be supporting Teukie to stay in Korea for the full 7 months (2 semesters of language study). Teukie will document their journey through Korea via blog posts, videos, and photos at Home is Where the Hallyu Is.

If you aren't able to support Teukie financially, please help us by signalboosting this out to your friends, family, and social media networks! This is a collective community effort, so all you can do to spread the word is appreciated.
