Nothern Provincial Hospital, Vanuatu

What's the catch in Vanuatu?

Every year Midwifery [and nursing] students from ACU (Melbourne) travel to Vanuatu to experience maternity and health care in a developing country.

Northern Provincial Hospital in Santo hosts the students for two weeks where they have the opportunity to work alongside local midwives providing antenatal care, labour and birth care, care in the postnatal period and care to premature or unwell babies. Students are supported and supervised by Midwifery lecturers from ACU.

The hospital relies heavily on international aid through organisations such as AUSaid and Rotary. Part of the experience for students is fundraising for the host hospital. The money raised is donated directly to the hospital so they are able to purchase much needed equipment. It may be as basic as sterile gloves and dressings or as complex as an ECG machine or an X-ray machine.
All donations, both monetary and supplies will 100% directly support the host hospital and local community. All travel and personal expenses are covered by the participating students.
