Sewing Machines for Women in Kyrgyzstan
Donation protected
As part of my capstone project at Prescott College, I will be traveling to Karakol, Kyrgyzstan to work with a women's craft cooperative called Asylzat. Azylzat creates income and educational oportunities for women in the community through the creation and sale of traditional Kyrgyz crafts and clothing. Not only does this expand economic oportunities for women, it also keeps Kyrgyz culture alive. The cooperative needs training and supplies for the women to be able to produce goods on a large enough scale to support itself. The money will be used to obtain tools and supplies for Asylzat.
These are a few primary goals of the craft cooperative:
-Train 20 women in handicraft skills who in turn will train members of rural communities
-Improve the financial situation of unemployed women and girls
-Set up a website to advertise goods and services to the external market
Look down below to see some of what we can buy to support this valuable community organization. The cooperative also needs funds for training seminars, utility bills, and basic office supplies, to name a few other things.
