Marathon for Beacon House!

Donation protected
Childhood pals Esther Terpenning and Katie Travis will be running the Grandma's Marathon in Duluth this June.  They have chosen to raise money for The Beacon House Oprphanage/School in Accra, Ghana. Katie lived in Accra in the fall of 2012 working as a teacher of Pre School and afterschool music at Beacon House.

Information on Beacon House:

Beacon House opened in 2005 and has served the Ghanaian community through fostering orphaned and vulnerable children and assisting at-risk families in their communities.  It is located in Accra, Ghana and fosters 20-40 children. Many of these children come to Beacon House malnourished with developmental delays and life-threatening illnesses.  Through the help of many, Beacon House has helped children to overcome the odds and flourish to live normal lives.

The heart of the mission of Beacon House is to demonstrate to children that they are loved, that they matter and, despite what they have faced in the past, their dreams can come true.

Funds towards Beacon House go towards:

-Tuition costs and school supplies for children living at the oprphanage
-Cost of food and basic living expenses for the children and teen mothers living at Beacon House
-Medical Expenses for the children-some of whom are HIV positive or have various special needs.
-Due to the high cost of rent, Beacon House will be changing locations in the near future.  The ultimate goal is for them to build a new school where the children will have more room to play, grow and learn to their best abililties.  As you can imagine, this is an incredibly expensive goal.
