I am Clay Claiborne and while a work as a Linux Systems administator in my day job, I have also wrtten over 400 posts about democracy struggle in Syria in the past 3 years on my blog Linux Beach . Basel and Luna Watfa are just two of the many thousands of Syrian refugees that have been forced to make the dangerous journey from the killing fields their homeland has become to the relative safety of Germany.
Both have long been pro-democracy activists in Syria and both have made important contributions to my blog, Linux Beach , and helped us to provide world-class coverage of events in Syria. Basel has translated many of my pieces into Arabic and he has translated important Arabic writings on Syria in English so as to make them available to a wider audience. The very important piece we published on the sarin massacre, When Paradise Turn to Hell , was written Luna and translated by Basel. She was imprisoned in Assad's gulag more than a year for this.
They have never accepted a penny of any of this. Basel even had the nerve to apologize for his inability to help when I ran my own gofundme campaign . But now they need our help. When I asked him to translate our statement in opposition to the Russian invasion of Syria, I found that they are living in a tent with 250 other people in a Syrian refugee camp outside of Kusel, Germany. They have no Internet and he was force to leave his laptop in Turkey when they took the rubber "death boat" to Europe. Along the way they documented everything in pictures and video. Luna is also writing about her experiences in Assad's prison system.
This is extremely important material that the world needs to see. Basel and Luna have already accomplished that hard part by getting safely to Germany. I am asking you to chip in so they can replace the laptop, get Internet access and start a new life in Germany so that they can continue their important work of struggling against both enemies of the Syrian people, tyranny and extremism. You can read more about their story here .
