Panama Part Dos: Music Therapy
Donation protected
This August 2014, 6 music therapy students from Berklee College of Music are travelling to Panama City to support global awareness of music therapy. We will be working with the Danilo Perez Foundation to provide music therapy workshops and informational sessions to medical professionals and community members.
The Team:
Tessa Kaslewicz
Tessa Kaslewicz is a music therapy major at Berklee College of Music who will be finishing her coursework in December 2014. She is a vocalist and has grown into a guitarist through her music therapy work. While being at Berklee she has worked with many different populations, but after working with children while in the Cayman Islands for a service trip, she has decided that working with children is what she would like to do as a professional music therapist. She would like to continue her education in graduate school and focus on research of neuroscience and music.
Emma Byrd
Emma Byrd graduates from Berklee College of Music this May 2014 with a degree in Music Therapy. She is a piano principle, who grew up in the Boston area and fell in love with music therapy upon entering Berklee in 2011. Emma has been involved in service projects most of her life, and looks forward to combining her desire to positively impact global communities with her love of music therapy.
Esteban Roa Fuentes
Being driven by curiosity and an interest to better his surroundings, Esteban Roa is dedicated to keep learning and use his knowledge to promote progress. Pursuing his passion, Esteban is currently studying Music Therapy and Music Business at Berklee College of Music, and looks forward to bringing what he learns back to his home country, Colombia. Previous to Berklee, Esteban was very involved in the volunteering community by being on the staff or on the volunteer groups of different organizations that primarily worked with children. Esteban primarily plays the drumset but has been learning guitar during his time at Berklee and would like to continue to learn additional instruments to keep sharing his passion for music and music therapy.
Mark Frazee
Raised among the mountains, fields, and streams of Vermont, Mark Frazee has an appreciation for the beauty of the Earth and hopes to someday see as much of the world as humanly possible. Mark has a passion for people and loves meeting and learning from everyone that he comes into contact with. He is finishing up his Music Therapy coursework at Berklee College of Music this spring and is looking forward the future. A piano player by trade, guitar playing hopeful, and banjo playing wannabe, Mark loves sharing music and experiencing the unshakable relationships it forms with others. He is hoping to someday join the Peace Corps as an agricultural specialist while also sharing music therapy with the community he is serving. What Mark brings to this team is a love for life, a great sense of humor and only the best maple syrup and cheddar cheese that Vermont has to offer!
Bobbi Jo Vandal
Originally from the Great Plains of North Dakota, Bobbi Jo Vandal is passionate about music therapy and its potential to reach people of all kinds around the globe. On previous service trips to Tijuana and Daytona, she saw the transformative power of helping global neighbors and is excited for the opportunity to use music therapy to support people with various needs and challenges. Bobbi Jo is currently in her last full time semester at Berklee College of Music, and is looking forward to beginning an internship. In the future, she is dedicated to further explore the use of music therapy for stress-reduction and neurorehabilitation.
