Medical Volunteer to Cap Haitien, Haiti
Donation protected
Honor! I am Mambo Vye Zo Komande LaMenfo, and I am a Mambo Asogwe of Haitian Vodou. This year, I am volunteering with VOSH-PA, an optometric organization here in Pennsylvania, that is dedicated to eradicating eye disease in Haiti by 2020. They have done amazing work so far - In October of 2008, Dr. Dave McPhillips started a division of VOSH called VOSH DelVal whose goal is to concentrate their mission work in Haiti. Through those missions, many people have been able to see clearly. A VOSH team typically sees two major city clinics and five villages in five days, treating approximately 1500 people in all those places. Lots and lots of need in that region.
VOSH PA routinely travels on 4 missions to northern Haiti in the Cap Haitien and Milot area each year. They refer surgical and advanced treatment patients to Hospital Sacré Couer in Milot, and spearheaded a new clinic which opened in May of 2013 called Vision Plus Clinique. With so much care needed in Haiti, they are starting to expand into the southern part of Haiti. Later this year, they will be going to my home town of Jacmel, to begin the work of setting up a clinic there to help people with eye problems and conditions.
I have known Dave McPhillips for 20 years, and have worked with him doing a great deal of translation work with regard to VOSH in Haiti. This year, he has asked me to accompany him to Haiti as an ambassador and to do translation work there in clinic. I am asking for help funding this very worth while trip. Any money that is donated beyond my own expenses will go to VOSH PA for eyeglasses, contact lenses, medication and surgical supplies.
We would be staying in a small holstel in Cap Haitien, and then traveling back and forth to clinic in the main city as well as visiting a clinic in nearby Milot and of course, those rural villages I mentioned above. Volunteers are expected to pay their own way, which means airfare, hotel and food, as well as part of the in country transportation costs. With your help, I can go to Haiti to help these wonderful folks heal, empower, and engage with the citizens of Cap Haitien and Milot, teaching the local doctors how to improve their techniques, as well as become self-sufficient in their medical practices.
I have added some perks to help make the pot sweeter, plus - as an added incentive, any donation made to my GoFundMe campagain is tax deductible through Sosyete du Marche's 501c3 federal status. This is in keeping with Sosyete du Marche's larger mission to be of service to the community-at-large both here in the US and in Haiti.
Please help me travel to Haiti this summer and work with the people of Cap Haitien and Milot. Together, we can bring the gift of sight to many folks, and give them a chance to stand on their own feet as well.
