Funding for School Project in Haiti
Donation protected
FUNDRAISER: We are asking all wellness groups from yoga to running to crossfit to hold a fundraiser day to go towards the building of our school and community center. Our goal is to have a new building in place by the end of the summer so that there is a place for kids to start 3rd grade next fall! Please make checks or money orders out to Sonje Ayiti and send to 6504 Oregon Pass, West Chester, OH 45069.
BACKGROUND: Frank Wray, owner and coach at KW CrossFit in Cincinnati, OH, and his wife Katie, are raising money to build a school and community center in northern Haiti. The original Cima "school" was started in 2011 and was housed in a UNICEF donated tent, with an additional "classroom" under a small blue tarp. The school was started after a young, 18-year old woman traveled hundreds of miles from Port-a-Prince to the Cima community with about 15 orphans from the earthquake. The current school has ~100 students with a waiting list of over 50 more.
We are working with Sonje Ayiti, a non-profit organization which means Remember Haiti, and was founded and is led by a dynamic Haitian woman named Gabrielle Vincent. Gabie & her team inspire us because they work tirelessly to improve the life of Haitians in a way that is sustainable, not just a band-aid.
To date we have raised over $30,000 for the school. Our estimates are that it will cost about $200,000 to get the school fully established and have some operating funds in place.
