We are Team Canada for International Space Camp 2016!
Thank you to all of you who have already donated to help make our representing Canada at International Space Camp come to pass. Due to loss of funding from a local supporter as well as the totally overwhelming support from friends, family and community members, we've adjusted our Gofundme target: our new goal of $1600 will cover one student's airfare as well as their tuition.
From 8 to 16 July 2016, two high school students and one teacher from Greenstone will see if they have the right stuff to be astronauts and will represent Canada at International Space Camp, joining students and educators from more than 35 countries, as well every American state and territory. They will experience extended-duration simulated space missions, working hand-in-hand with peers from around the world to prepare for becoming the next generation of space leaders and explorers.
These would-be-astronauts are fundraising to help to offset the cost of tuition and travel costs from Thunder Bay ON to Huntsville AL, a task made more difficult by the weakened Canadian dollar.
The exploration of space attracts the dreamers as well as the dedicated. The first human on Mars is likely a student – perhaps one of these two students! -- right now, as are the scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians who will make it happen. Just as in the case of the Space Race of the mid-twentieth century, the dividends of Team Canada’s participation in International Space Camp will be increased interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics from our local students.
