Help Us Start a Family
Donation protected
After we got married in 2012, like many couples, we wanted to start a family. Time was not on our side but it was also something we both fervently wanted. Raising a family was one of the most important reasons we got married: to nurture and nourish children, to watch them grow and flourish, to comfort and protect them, to see them learn and interact with the world around them and then, to send them out into that world, to make their individual marks upon it. We had talked about what we wanted for them, what we saw as our duty as parents, what we dreamed for them. We were thrilled by the prospect of having our own children in our lives. However, like an unfortunate but significant number of couples, we have tried for quite some time without success.
When nothing had happened after the first six months, we sought medical advice at one of the best fertility centers in the country. After a barrage of fairly unpleasant and intrusive tests, it became clear that what happens naturally for millions of couples every year was unlikely to happen naturally for us. Yet we were healthy and happy and the doctors were quietly confident that the least intrusive medical assistance would achieve the desired results.
After several unsuccessful attempts, we were advised to move onto more invasive but comprehensive methods. These were also not covered by our health insurance, but we were happy to invest in the future of our family. However, after several IVF treatments did not work, the doctors started looking at what other impediments might be preventing our success. More tests and a complicated surgery later, we were running out of time but, more importantly, money.
Our last and best hope is to use donors to attempt to start our family. We have found a medical center that works on a success basis, i.e if after 6 attempts, we dont come home with a healthy baby, we get our money back (this center is fully accredited and acclaimed in the infertility community). Given our history, this is a great comfort! Unfortunately, while we possess the will to continue, we no longer possess the means. Consequently, we are appealing to our dearest friends and their friends and acquaintances to assist us financially in whatever way they can, to help us to achieve our dream.
Any donation level is welcome - we of all people understand being in a tough spot financially so even if you only have $5 to donate we will be thrilled!!
If you do have the financial freedom, please consider a donation of $100 - if we can get 300 people to give this amount we will be able to have our child!
We cannot give anything back other than our promise to be loving parents and our promise to pay it forward then next time someone asks us for help.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your care and your help.
With our very best wishes,
Deirdre & Harold
